Frank Wynkoop’s Winged Cliffside Masterpiece

Breathtaking shoreline and a few of the better of midcentury structure make for a heart-stopping combo. Supply.

Alongside Scenic Drive in Carmel, California, the 1951 “Butterfly Home” sits atop a rock outcropping, bordered by Monterey cypress bushes. Vacationers having fun with the drive will undoubtedly snap images of this distinctive home with its wing-shaped roof and unbelievable structure, designed by architect Frank Wynkoop and accomplished in 1951.

Whereas a busy architect in his lifetime, the Butterfly Home is Wynkoop’s most well-known construction. The inside is designed round an open courtyard with a pool, and naturally, the inside dwelling areas are oriented towards the beautiful view of the Pacific and world-famous Huge Sur shoreline.

Breathtaking shoreline and a few of the better of midcentury structure make for a heart-stopping combo. Whereas the Butterfly Home is privately owned and never obtainable to tour, the general public Scenic Drive will get you an excellent view of the outside and surroundings. To see the house’s inside as of 2011, try this put up.
