Barry Keoghan Jokes He Owns 10 Jacob Elordi “Saltburn” Bathwater Candles

This story originally appeared in Teen Vogue.

A Jacob Elordi inspired candle isn’t too surprising — but a candle inspired by his Saltburn bathtub scene? (Yes, that scene.) Now that’s a little… different. But then again, given the outrageous excitement the scene has stirred up across the internet since the movie’s streaming premiere, it makes sense.

An Etsy seller named SideHustleVibes got right to work making an aromatic ode to Elordi and his onscreen character Felix, who masturbates in a bathtub during the film; Barry Keoghan’s character Oliver notoriously licks up the remnants later, sucking the drain clean.

Jacob Elordi’s Bathwater Candle is a soy wax candle that comes in three aromas — Comfort Spice, Sea Breeze, and Vanilla — and retails for just under $28. “There’s nothing quite like the smell of a quality candle, particularly when that smell is inspired by Jacob Elordi and what we imagine His Highness to smell like… Our candle aims to capture the essence of the charismatic figure of Felix Catton, promising a sensorial experience like no other,” the brand wrote in the candle’s description. “Let the flickering flame and the captivating scent transport you to Emerald Fennell’s world of Saltburn, where fantasy and reality intertwine.” Well, alrighty then.

The candle immediately went viral and spawned a fleet of copycats, and Keoghan joked about being a customer. “I already have 10 of them,” Keoghan told Variety on January 3. “They’re all burning at my house right now.” (Which scent do you think he chose? He seems like a Sea Breeze kinda guy.)

The scene now lives in movie infamy forever, but Elordi was apparently a fan of its salaciousness right from the start. He told Stream Wars in December that he was “excited” about the prospect of filming such a shocking moment.

“I was just really excited when I read that scene, because you don’t really see things like that in mainstream movies a lot of the time,’” Elordi explained, praising the film’s writer and director Emerald Fennell. “So it’s just great that Emerald was allowed to kind of push those boundaries and expose people like that.” In November, he also told Variety that he was “very proud” of the scene. “I was like, ‘Thank God, it’s mine,’” Elordi joked of the onscreen emission. “I was very proud. I was very proud to have Barry Keoghan guzzling it like that.”
